1. Less Is More
We often find ourselves committing to projects and activities that we wouldn't otherwise consider and we wind up tired, frustrated and taking it out on our loved ones. Consider this year on choosing 1 or 2 cherished activities and leave the rest. You will find that you are calmer, happier and rested and overall have a better Holiday experience.
2. Can't Make Everyone Happy
Boy oh boy did my mother say this a few thousand times to me as a child. But it very much applies to this time of year. Expectations are often unreasonable and short of being Martha Stewart with an army of assistants someone is bound to be irritated that you don't have their favorite obscure drink or that they can't smoke in your house. Whether your are the host/hostess or attendee this year, just remember it's not your job to make everyone happy.
3.Give Everyone the Benefit of the Doubt
We all have been there, an offhanded comment that sends our head spinning. And what ensues next is either a confrontational knee jerk response or stewing and stewing over what was said. Neither path is going to provide you with a positive outcome. Try giving the person the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they are tired, stressed or dealing with a bad relationship and the list goes on and on. You will find if you give a loved one the benefit of the doubt that you will be able to move past a perceived negative comment and enjoy the remainder of your Holiday.
